The Full Moon Coffee Shop by Mai Mochizuki

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

I got quite excited when I picked up this book in the bookshop. The blurb sounded like a very novel idea for people who are stuck in a rut. However, when we finally encountered the catalyst at work (no pun intended!), I was a bit disappointed with the amount of astrology involved. It’s almost as if you’re getting a lesson in the subject. But rather than fortune-telling, the cats do give its customers the opportunity to change their lives. It would have been interesting to have a character who didn’t take the cat’s advice. I’m also disappointed that the cats were giant and anthropomorphic. It makes the whole story seem more like a dream. But at least they argue with each other which creates a bit of fun, and there’s no role models, only past experiences. The epilogue seeks out the character’s rewards, but they could have made better relation to their experience of their visit.
