The takeaways have finally been permitted to open. Everybody’s
scrambling for the phone. It’s been three months since the restaurants have
closed which means that everyone’s had to cook for themselves. Suddenly the
phones are buzzing and the queue is at least a quarter of a mile long. You’d
think they’d offer an online pick-up but then they’d need a separate kitchen to
keep up with demand, especially if they offer a delivery service. At least with
phone calls to collect from a window with timed pickup slots, they can focus on
what they have and if they’re busy and can’t answer the phone then people will
get the message. All they’ve then got to worry about is people who turn up in
the wrong place at the wrong time. I just wondered how long the wait was and
whether everyone got what they came for or how good the communication was if supplies
ran out.
