Sure enough, Sherduck headed straight for the bar. He didn’t
even take his coat off. The barman sighed as he ordered his usual bottle of absinth
over ice. All this guy did was talk down to people. At least his sidekick had already
put some money down for the evening. He wondered if that included a tip.
‘So it may be nothing’ said Sherduck, but I think that our
perpetrator has a nicotine addiction. A little like mine, but in poorer taste.’
‘How so?’ said Buttons.
‘Well, I found a few discarded ends by the church door. We
might get a DNA match if it’s a known offender.’
‘And if it’s not a known offender then it’ll be a complete
waste of time’ said Buttons.
‘Not necessarily’ said Sherduck. We can ask any suspect to
take a DNA test to prove whether they were in the vicinity.’
‘But surely it’d be easier to check the body’ said Buttons.
