There’s a church placed in in its own stretch in the
countryside, yet it’s a stone’s throw away from a large village. There’s a
layby to let people park their cars outside the church but there’s only enough
room to let one other vehicle pass. The church itself has an impressive steeple
dominating the countryside and contains some commonwealth war graves. The path
goes down a hill and past two other footpaths to reach a modern cemetery at the
end. Cross through the cemetery and you enter the Heart of England Forest, an
organisation dedicated to providing land for outdoor enjoyment. There’s plenty
of trails to wander off and explore, including a mill pond, a castle, a forest and acres of fields, but
you have to know where you’re going or keep track of where you’ve been. Once
you’ve left the forest, you can climb the hill to the south for some scenic views
of the town.
