How to Stop Time by Matt Haig

How to Stop TimeHow to Stop Time by Matt Haig
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

I found this book a bit depressing. The title is also a bit misleading and the narrator wastes no time in telling you his condition. I know the protagonist was depressed but it doesn’t really convince the reader to root for him, especially when he tells his long life-story in riddles. The present-day stuff is certainly unhumorous and the frequent flickers of time in the narrative makes it hard for the reader to establish facts, though it was fun to see how the same protagonist lived throughout different ages. The ending is a bit full of itself, and it only serves to enhance the author’s self-ego with suggested questions for reading groups and even an excerpt that wasn’t featured in the main narrative. He tries to disguise this with anecdotes encourage the reader to think of their own lives in the hope that it will inspire them to take the next step. They’ll need it after finishing his book.
