There’s a lot to consider when drinking outside, even more
so if it’s in an area that you don’t own. But where to sit? You want somewhere that’s
nice and clean and not covered in a substance that the cleaner thinks that it
will wash away the next time it rains, which could be in a long while. You also
want somewhere that’s level without a wonky
table leg that tilts the while thing forward every time someone leans forward
to pick up their beer. One careful and ill-timed bounce could cause a spillage
across the whole table. You also want somewhere that’s your environment without
having to inhale smoke or be drowned out by patrons at other tables. You may
also want to see each other, which may mean putting up the parasol rather than
peering round it all the time, or removing it all together so that you can stay
in the sun, that is, if you’re not blinded by it.
