It was time to start our house renovation. As well as replacing
the slat blinds in the dining room where my niece had broken the
interconnecting cords, we also wanted a new roller blind for the kitchen and
another for my bedroom. I wanted to go back to curtains but it was hard to argue
when someone was offering to do them as part of
a deal. And although the fitter’s shop was open, we were required to
either make an appointment or be prepared to wait outside until the previous
customers had finished browsing and no more appointments were expected. The shop
had a factory attached which was on an industrial estate with its own small car
park with a council housing estate opposite. To make things easier, we both
wore facemasks and disposable gloves. There was a large range to choose from,
and as well as hanging racks to flick through there were also hundreds of books
filled with patterned samples.
