After an afternoon of exploring
Highgate, there were many establishments on its high street that attracted my attention.
I settled for the Duke’s Head because
of its recent entry into CAMRA’s Good
Beer Guide. Inside, the pub was very quiet. There were two tables across
the pub’s entrance, and behind this was a corridor of wooden seating with the
bar opposite. The bar itself was also wooden, and there was a long list of
beers on the chalkboard in both cask and keg variety but it was hard to work
out which was which, so I went by the hand pulls in front of me. The lunchtime
session seemed to have finished, and the barman was quite contempt working away
at his new menus in the corner until one of his regulars came in. The beer was
flavoursome but hunger called and the Duke’s menu. However, the menu was of the
tapas variety and was fairly pricey, so I decided to head back into the city
centre for something more substantial.
