World War Z by Max Brooks

World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War
World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War by Max Brooks
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I liked the style of this book. It was a series of interviews by a journalist of people’s experiences of their encounters with the undead. Our narrator moves around what’s left of the world visiting places and gathering people’s stories of the outbreak. As the tale progresses, stories turn from tales of terror to survival and eventually combatting the enemy. Most accounts are of military personnel, though some survivors do get to tell us what they’ve left behind and their new role in life. Occasionally our mysterious journalist asks questions, but we don’t learn enough of this to form an opinion on him. It’d be interesting to learn how he gets to travel to all these destinations as the outbreak escalates, though it’s not stated how soon these victims are recalling their encounters. He even contacts formal occupants of the International Space Station. It’s certainly something to bear in mind when you’re looking at survival techniques.
