Today’s task was to find the fairy pools. This was a long
cascade of pools running through the glen with some spectacular waterfalls
right in the island’s centre. We had a rough idea where to go thanks to a
guidebook, and it seemed that everyone else did as well as a quarry was being
converted into a car park and already we had to pay £5 to park. We followed a
trail alongside a stream against the backdrop of some impressive hills, and the
rock pools just kept appearing and appearing and appearing. I got brave enough
to crawl down to the rocks and took a quick dip. I would have gone for a swim
but the weather was against me. It would have been great to see just how long
they could stretch to, but Maz’s mobility problems prevented us from strolling
as fast as we would have liked. On a brighter day, there would be some great
rainbow displays. It’s definitely somewhere that I would like to return.
