Is it the joy of winning that makes us compete, or is it the martial gain of prize money, medals, certificates, cups and trophies? I have to wonder this while watching our national team. Sure, they’re believed to be the best of the best but their loyalty to their current clubs still makes for some interesting conflict when they’re out on the pitch. They may gain recognition for their appearance and maybe even a cup or a medal but they’d rather be paid their usual million per week to roll down the road in their Porsche into their local training ground. And it seems odd that they only look to the next game in the tournament rather than talk about the prize. A more polite person would argue that they don’t want to jinx it but in reality they’re thinking that they’ve got to spend another week with this lot with another game at the end of it.
