The rails go up and they also go down automatically. In the
olden days all players had to come to a decision as to whether they’d be up or
down for the whole game. Otherwise, you’d need a man with a pole after every
turn to raise and lower them each time. It would be quite annoying to have to
find a member of staff every time and the game would progress slowly. It gives
the kids an equal playing field with the adults as they’ve hopefully got more
chance of getting a strike even with a gutter ball, and at least they’re
guaranteed a score on the first go if they do. We just do the two games because
the kids begin to get fed up after the second one. And if everyone gives up, we
just start to do silly trick shots until the staff pick up on it and tell us to
leave.
