It seems only fair that you should treat all your children
equally. This gets a bit difficult when they’re of different age groups. The younger
one naturally feels that they’re entitled to what the older one is receiving as
they not necessarily recognise the age difference. When do they get a phone? At
other times, older children are led to follow processes which may make them feel
a bit ridiculous at times but they do it to enforce a relationship with their
younger sibling and make them feel a bit conformist. Some parents will issue privileges
to all children at the same time to keep the peace but it might delay natural development
with their peers. Some parents will do a bit of planning which may hinder older
children but be fair to the younger ones. But it’s important to recognise a balance
within family life and to compromise where necessary.
