So the Russians are allowed back
in the Olympics. This seems all too suspicious as it’s the state that is
responsible for administering the drug tests and it’s the same organisation
that self-regulates its athletes. Shouldn’t the justice system also be
responsible for appointing someone to enforce the tests? What exactly is stopping
the Russians from repeating the process? I’m guessing that the only reason that
the ban has been lifted is because the Russians have something that everyone
else wants: investment. It’s amazing how much money goes into these Olympic villages
just for the sake of a few weeks. Every event must have a brand-new venue which
probably won’t be used ever again; or on the off-chance that it does, it will
undergo a major refurbishment to be upgraded with all the latest facilities and
technologies. And of course, nations complain if they can’t do everything in
one place as they’ll separated from their fellow countrymen. Unless they’re
Russian. In which case they’re used to being a million miles away from each other.
