We continued west until we met a concrete track, then
followed a paved road south alongside the river Arrow where more people were in
abundance. As we followed the road to the boating club, a small crowd gathered
along the path. There in the middle of the river was a huge nest. It was the equivalent
of a mansion. It was deliberately placed away from the bank so there was no
hope of getting near to it without entering the water. Perched proudly on top
of this nest was a beautiful swan who was keeping a watchful eye upon her cygnets.
She’d managed to position herself so that she could keep an eye on both her
young and her audience. We continued south down a footpath until it reached a
road, then turned left and climbed a hill to reach a farm. In hindsight, we
should have taken the direct path at the sailing club, but then we would have
missed the cygnets.
