Our last castle visit of the trip was just outside the town,
but it was in the direction of home. It’s in a small village just off the main
road. The car park had recently been recobbled to prevent erosion, and there
was easy pedestrian access to the main entrance. There’s a lot of history here
as well as lots of nooks and crannies to explore. The large windowpanes clearly
show that in the past, the castle had extravagance. I love how they built the
frames into the rounded towers. Be prepared or some great views and some
exbibits that you can interact with, including a wooden horse and a wooden giant
sculpture near the café. There’s also a small walk to the mill house and its pond.
It’s a great place for birdwatching. The pub alongside it looked interesting,
but unfortunately I had a long drive back. Maybe next time.
