The weather. It’s something that we all talk about to complete strangers. It’s a safe topic. You can expect a boring, droll response and you probably won’t cause offence to anyone with your answer. But what else can pass as a conversation with complete strangers? Offence is the last thing that you want to cause them; yet you don’t want to be boring enough to prompt a conversation that they’ve heard ten times already. What’s a good opening line that you can open with that stranger on the train? If they’re reading a book, they may not to be disturbed. They might be a bit shy in responding themselves which could make things even more awkward. But you need to have something ready so that it looks like you’re not judging or ogling them. If you’re a private person, it could be difficult to find some common ground. You might have to ask something that makes you look completely stupid on comment on something that’s just plain obvious.
