Operators report Misleading Claims over the Euros Tournament

It sounds like a scam to me. An organisation that no-one’s heard of is demanding that a separate licence is needed to show live sport despite already having a TV licence. I’m aware that commercial premises need to have different licences to what you would have at home since there’s an opportunity to raise commerce from it. And apparently live sport is exempt. So what do these people want? They’re called the Motion Picture Licensing Company (MPLC). They sound like someone you’d pay to set up a cinema screen in an outdoors setting to show films. In short, it’s another scaremongering method to get money out of hard-working tenants. There’s no indication of what could happen if you weren’t to buy a licence direct from this company. But live events don’t follow a script; there’s no writers or actors to pay as it all happens spontaneously. So why pay for more? I think someone’s just trying to raise some extra cash.
