Zhong wondered if it was selfish to flee when there might be an opportunity to prevent the Empress from getting any bigger. He wondered if anyone would be left in the city since the Empress was spending all her time in the countryside. She’d be too big to return to enjoy it anyway. It was worth a look. He might even be able to live quite comfortably in what was left. It might take a day or two but would it be too late? Would the kitchens still be full of supplies? Or would he be in the wrong place for the Empress to literally wipe their civilisation off the map? He might fare better than having to rely on others. If he found any gems, he’d then have to find someone to trade with. The only question was whether the tunnel that the Empress came out of was still passable.
