Keeping Right

We’re driving over to the pub for our post-walk meal. To get to the pub, the road crosses a bridge over the river. Crossing points for this river have been a bit scarce recently as a number of road accidents have caused them to be closed and re-built. This particular bridge also has a narrow lane. There’s a dedicated footpath painted on the road, and vehicles aren’t permitted to pass at the same time. There’s also some lights to allow people to turn off the main road since the bridge further up is under repair. People coming uphill have the right of way. So I set off to cross the bridge then a pickup truck comes hurtling towards me at speed. He thinks he can force me to give way. The only thing that I could do was jam my brakes on and blast my horn so that he doesn’t hit me.
