I’m not entirely sure who Eddie was, but I’m sure there’s no
family connection with the landowner, although it’d be nice to think that there
was. I’m also not sure where we actually walked, though we didn’t plan a long
one owing to the forecasted bad weather. We
probably started at the riverside car park. We specifically set off to
find this wood, then worked out a circular route back. We felt that the woods
were creeping in around us to hide the clearing to stop us from making our return
journey. It’s a new method for the forest commission to raise funds and
generate interest. Wearing jackets that blend in with the foliage doesn’t help,
though it’s great if you want to try and spot some wildlife. We didn’t because
it was too open, but this might have happened if we disobeyed the sign and made
our own footpath.
