From here, I enter the forest. There’s a track running
straight down to the brook. It’s as if I’ve joined the main throughfare. As I follow
the banks of the river, it gets quite picturesque. There’s a small bank that
you can climb onto for a stunning view of this waterfall. It’s also a perfect
place to take a paddle as the river is quite shallow and clean. Back on the path, I pass a cottage complete
with its own mill. I wonder if it’s someone’s holiday home. There’s even a lock
on display. The path becomes a track and passes a cricket club and some playing
fields. Then I hit tarmacadam and pass more homes before arriving in the village
square. Then it’s just a short walk through a street crowded with parked cars
to get to the pub. The doors of these houses are always pavement-side so I always
enjoy glancing through the windows for a quick glimpse of village life.
