We might have even had the grace of being passed over for
sharing a learning moment. Something right behind us might not have been so
lucky. It’s not quite a pair of feet left behind, but it could be shoes. She
just could be learning grid references. We’ve evolved from dressing up to
making things to wear to learn all in the space of a morning. We might even be
recorded by the black box next to the TV. Will I let her win, or will I let her
learn? But there is another child somewhere. We probably need to tidy up a little.
We might have ducked unnecessarily and have gotten lucky. Family photos look on
proudly as if they’re satisfied that we’re doing our best. It’s been thirsty
work. The hands seem bigger than the body. Is that a second long finger sneaking
under the black sleeved arm? Perhaps that’s why we need two flasks.
