It’s what we face every day. We don’t know what dwells
within it. In a town or city where you’re grouped together, it’s hard to find
the dark. Someone will always have a light on somewhere. It will shine through
the window or cast a shadow. You need to get out into the countryside away from
a land of lampposts to truly experience darkness. You might feel alone or you might
find peace and serenity away from everyone else. Or you might wonder what is
moving around you. There’s shapes and different blends of black. You hope it’s
the mixture of light. But it could be something small passing through. Can you
hear it scuttling or is that the creak of the mattress? You hope so. Is that
the air moving, or is it tiny microscopic bugs? You’d expect it in the
countryside, but not so much in the town.
