The sun is out, but the ducks are insisting on staying in
the shade. Perhaps it’s too warm for them, or they don’t like the red and
yellow colours. Maybe there’s a fear that they will change colour, as they’re
used to seeing green foliage, but perhaps without the little lights dancing off
the reflection beneath them. Or maybe they’re vampire ducks. But the season is
coming. The evidence is on the floor all around them. Maybe it’s time to
migrate. But which way to go? Heading north will avoid the sun, but it will be
colder and they’ll be more autumnal colours. It might even be a bit sparse.
Heading south, they’ll be more green, but it won’t be long until the
environment turns to the same conditions that they’re in now. Just down the end,
it’s even brighter. Perhaps night travel is the best solution in sparse areas.
