After reaching the top of the hill, the road peaked
as it crossed over the Grand Union Canal and the pub was on the other side. From
the outside, it looks to be a purpose-built, red-bricked pub, with an excellent
beer garden to aid the rest of weary canal travellers. There’s even private outside
booths for those who like a bit of both worlds. Inside, there’s a choice of two
real ales alongside a menu of home-cooked food. An open conservatory looks out
onto the beer garden, while wooden beams are above the bar. Log-lined walls
offer a cosy atmosphere while comfy cushions are scattered across windowside banquettes
for road-watchers. Just behind is a more formal dining room with a chimney and
fireplace. The resident dog has his own spot next to the tills. While being in
the middle of nowhere, it’s a centrepoint where roads and walks converge, and
there’s even places nearby for trainspotters.
